The area under our various projects is largely agriculture dependent. We plan to assist the farmer to shift from traditional crops like wheat, rice and coarse millets to crops that enhance their economic status. This, we feel, will enable the farmer to earn much more from the same small land holdings without being vulnerable to sell his land for commercial purposes and mitigate the long standing issue of migrating to the cities. To achieve these long term objectives we follow the following steps.
- We facilitate soil testing in different locations under the project area thereby identifying what is the best possible crop for that particular land and what component needs to be supplemented.
- Villages, today, are not very self sufficient in organic manure. We assist and provide supervision in construction of vermi-compost pit and organic pesticides like providing good quality earth worms.
- We assist in revival of lost traditional crops and organic methods of farming of such crops so that both yield and income may increase.
- Water is a scarce resource in the mountainous region. To optimally utilize this resource We assist in Drip Irrigation facilities, utilizing methods to conserve scarce water resources.
- The hills compared to the plains still receive frequent rainfall. To harness the rain water and put it to proper use we assist in construction of rain harvesting system.
- To supplement the traditional vegetables we introduce the farmer to proper use of poly houses (Green House) and to identify the right kind of crop, and optimally utilize the space.
- We assist in completion of legal formalities to receive governmental subsidies and share information about benefits from other related schemes.
- Share our knowledge to provide better quality seeds without compromising on preservation of bio- diversity and also assist the farmer in the plantation and cropping of some traditional seeds, for instance varieties of red rice, once prevalent in this entire area.
- We also ensure buy back guarantee at mutually decided price for produce that match the standards of quality thus enhancing the income of the farmer.
